Friday is deadline day for students interested in submitting their names for the Educational Council at Northwest Community College, once the nominations are in NWCC will conduct a student election should the numbers of those interested in serving require one.
The Council gathers information and reviews discussion topic to help provide for recommendations for the overall good of the College. It consists of both Administration, instructors, staff and students who work together to help improve educational services at all campus locations in the region.
The nomination period opened on September 12th with four student seats available for a one year term, the makeup of those four seats includes two seats in place for students of the Terrace campus, one enshrined for the Prince Rupert campus while the fourth and final seat can be held by a student attending any other campus of across the NWCC service area.

September 23rd is also the closing date for nominations for the First Nations Council that provides for a process of direct consultation with First Nation communities in the college region. Three students are elected to the council and serve a one year term, NWCC is currently accepting nominations for two student seats.
The First Nations Council which was created in 1996, puts its focus towards developing policy recommendations that are based on the educational issues and strategies of First Nations communities across the Northwest. Among some of the topics that they review are student advocacy, program promotion, curriculum development and cultural issues to name a few.
