Lax Kxeen school making alternate gym plans while work continues on facility

Ongoing renovations at Lax Kxeen have the school's gym off limits
for the next few months

Those driving along Fifth Avenue East over the last few days probably noticed the Road Closed sign and the giant tarp covered mounds currently in place at the eastern side parking lot of Lax Kxeen school, indicative of work currently underway at the east side school.

With the start of the school year now underway, students at Lax Kxeen are going to see a few modifications to their Gym routine, with the school facility off limits until at least November.

In a newsletter to parents this week, Principal Susan Kobza provided an update on the ongoing upgrade project at the school, noting that the complete date is still a bit off set for November 1st.

As the school does not have access to their gymnasium until the project is finished, Ms. Kobza offered up the following update on the situation.

Lax Kxeen has made arrangements for teachers to take their students to the Civic Centre for Phys Ed classes on those days that the weather does not cooperate. They also note that they have access to a small bus for transport of the students to and from the recreation centre during the construction period.

The school is also looking into offering classes for swimming lessons at the Earl Mah Aquatic centre.

In addition to the gym closure, the work at Lax Kxeen also means that the west side parking lot is closed which is adding to the strain on the main parking lot, with some parking guidelines sent home to parents through the school's first newsletter of the year.

That update for parents and guardians also outlines a number of other school initiatives taking place at Lax Keen in these first few weeks of school.
