RCMP investigation underway into west side stabbing fatality

A homicide investigation is underway in Prince Rupert after members of the detachment responded to an overnight stabbing incident at a home in a townhouse unit on the 400 block of Ninth Avenue West.

Members were dispatched to the disturbance call shortly before 2AM this morning and upon arrival found a man and woman in their sixties both suffering from injuries, at the time of their response Mounties effected an arrest of a male teenager.

Tragically, one of the injured, the male has since died from his injuries, while the woman remains in hospital and is being treated for her injuries which are described as serious.

RCMP members remain on the scene of a homicide incident on 9th Avenue west

Members of the local detachment remain on the scene, with additional resources from the Major Crime Unit based in Prince George making their way to the city to assist in the investigation.

In a media release from this morning, Sergeant Jagdev Uppal of the RCMP advised that there is no risk to the public as a result of the incident.

Update: The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved two charges related to the Wednesday morning incident.

A 17 year old male has been charged with one count of second degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
