City set to make changes to disinfection system at Earl Mah Aquatic Centre

A project that will see the Recreation Department make changes to the disinfection system at the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre is now underway, with the first stage a call for proposals from qualified proponents to take on the work.

The RFP was posted to the BC Bid website on Wednesday and outlines the scope of the work ahead and the timeline that the city is looking for towards the changeover to an alternative from the current chlorine disinfection system.

The call for bids follows up on a study first noted in November of 2018 which began the search for a new disinfection system.

The documentation associated with the RFP indicates that the city is moving away from chlorine and towards a system using Calcium Hypochlorite.

The Project Overview provides a look at the expectations of the City for the successful applicant.

The timeline for the project is tied into the annual Aquatic Centre shutdown which is set for July 22nd this year, with all work required to be completed by August 17th.

A mandatory information meeting for those looking to do the work has been set for May 16th at the Aquatic Centre.

The closing date for bids for the project is May 30th with those interested in the work to direct their Bids to  David Geronazzo at the City's Recreation Department.

Further background on the project is available from the BC Bid website, with the Earl Mah project part of the BC bid listing Number 57, marked as item 10477
