Our love for electronics is putting broadband to the test ...

All those new devices that you are bringing home are putting your
broadband connection to the test

The emergence of all of the new "smart" technology is turning our homes and offices into automated enclaves where we barely have to lift a finger whether its to watch television, surf the internet or turn on the house lights.

But with all of the new devices you bring into your space, the internet bandwidth that you rely is getting narrowed bit by bit ... byte by byte.

A new post in the CityWest Blog provides a glimpse into our growing affection for devices that will do all we bid, listing off the growing collection of consumer items that are coming into our homes and soaking up the bandwidth with each installation.

As part of the parade of new devices however, comes the explanation as to how it all taxes the home system, as well as to explore what options are available to keep your home speeds high.

These new technologies will affect your Internet services, as adding new devices will put even more demand on the bandwidth from your modem or router. Additionally, because some smart devices may be placed away from your wireless modem or router - the signal can be significantly weakened.

In addition to the roll out of their Fibre to Home project which continues to see the new Prince Rupert backbone installed across the city, CityWest has also introduce a more localized addition to the home units, introducing a Wi-Fi enhancer that will strengthen the wireless signal through out your home.

The product which comes with a rate of $4.95 a month, is designed to extend wifi coverage and capacity within your home, helping to eliminate many of the dead spots that you may currently find.

More on the Wi-Fi extender and how to pick one up can be found here.
