Special School Deliveries planned in wake of cancellation of Halloweenfest for 2020

The Jim Ciccone Civic Centre will truly be an abandoned house
this Halloween, with the City cancelling the annual
Halloweenfest events for 2020.
However organizers do have a back up plan!

With the annual Civic Centre celebration events of Halloweenfest suspended for the year, organizers of the popular community event are still planning to shell out the treats, taking the project on the road this year with deliveries to local schools.

Organizers of the travelling treat patrol are currently seeking the help of businesses, service organizations and city residents to help out with donations of cash or boxed candy for the project.

Once the treasure trove of candy and such has been assembled the Halloweenfest organizers will work with SD52 to provide for individual treat bags for all elementary and middle school students, observing all the current COVID related health and safety measures that are in effect.

To donate to the community effort to keep the spirit(s) of Halloween in motion, contact the HalloweenFest Society at 250-62GHOST (624-4678).

They are looking for donations by October 19th in order to follow the guidelines in place.

The City's official notice of the cancellation of HalloweenFest came by way of social media earlier this month, with a one line advisory as part of the relay of some helpful Halloween guidelines from the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control.

Skipping Halloween parties this year (including Halloweenfest, which has been cancelled this year in advance due to the restriction on public gatherings to no more than 50 people).

Those health notes were highlighted by Dr. Bonnie Henry last week, with the province's top health official providing a link to the full BC CDC website where more recommendations for both Thanksgiving weekend and Halloween can be found.

More notes on Community events can be found from our archive page here.
