Hoobiyee plans near complete as Gitwinksihlkw prepares to welcome its guests


After some extensive planning and an eye on the ever evolving situation with COVID in recent months the organizers of Hoobiyee are near the finish line towards opening the doors on Friday for the 2022 Celebration.

Gitwinksihlkw is the host community and the Four Crest Dancers have provided the outline to what's ahead as the Nisga'a and their guests arrive in the community to take part in the weekend events to celebrate 30 years of Hoobiyee.

Doors Open on Friday at 4 PM with The Grand Entry coming at five, that launches the two days of Dancing and other activities with the Grand Finale and the handover of the Ceremonial Moon coming on Saturday evening at 9PM.

The Dancing for this year's Hoobiyee has been limited to those from the Nass Valley.

Full capacity will be allowed at the Ts’oohl Ts’ap Memorial Centre, with COVID protocols in place including proof of vaccination.  

This years celebration comes all the Oolichan are making their return across the Northwest,  it will mark a return to the live event following last years virtual presentation.
