A chance to catch up on a recent visitor to Prince Rupert is now showing on YouTube, with the Royal Canadian Navy having just released an extended look at the travels of the Navy ship HMCS Harry DeWolf.

The first of what will be six of the Arctic Patrol ships for the RCN, made a short port call in Prince Rupert in late September, a brief stopover to pick up some Navy Brass and make for a run in and out of the harbour on its way to points south.

The eleven minute video takes the viewer on the De Wolf's first significant transit following its commissioning.

Providing a look at its circumnavigation of North and Centra America,  the video highlights the opportunity to stop in at many Northern communities that the vessel had, how it maintained Canadian sovereignty in the North, as well as some of the additional tasks that the crew took on as part of their journey.

The vignette also offers up a glimpse of the impact of the transit for the crew and how they explored and learned more about their own country as part of the travels.

It's well worth a watch to learn more of the ship's capabilities and how it and the other five similar vessels to come may be called into service.

The journey for the vessel began in August of last year, with the DeWolf returning to its home port of Halifax in December.

We previewed some of the features of the Harry DeWolf and the Arctic/Offshore Patrol shipbuilding program, prior to the ships September arrival in Prince Rupert.

The ships twitter feed offers up a look at life aboard the DeWolf as well as links to a range of stories that recount their fascinating first voyage.
