MLA's Week: March 7-10, 2022

British Columbians could finally remove their masks this week, that as the BC Government's COVID response program gained an update from Doctor Bonnie Henry, who removed a number of Public Health measures related to the coronavirus.

The topic of British Columbia's LNG resources continued to make for a theme for the week, that in the wake of the Russian invasion and  attack on Ukraine, with the BC Liberals, speaking to the need to develop British Columbia resources, a theme that was taken on by Skeena MLA Ross in a pair of sessions of the Legislature.

This week also saw the province of British Columbia launch a consultation period towards new school curriculum with a focus on Indigenous elements

Some additional funding for the provincial and federal plans towards High Speed access for rural, isolated and Indigenous communities was also an item of note from the Legislature.

The Premier brought the week to an end with a Friday press conference that explored a number of themes including the planning that is in motion towards receiving Ukrainian refugees in the province, as well as a few remarks for the ongoing convoys that serve as the protest to the provincial COVID response.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross  was  mentioned three times in the record for the week in the Legislature from March 7-10.

His week in the Chamber for the most part continued to be focused on LNG and how British Columbia could be a provider of energy in a changing global scene. Themes on what Mr. Ross framed as British Columbia's opportunity to provide for ethical fuel delivered on Monday morning

The Skeena MLA picked up the theme of LNG again on Tuesday morning with a response to recent comments from the Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Development.

Mr. Ross also participated in an Estimates Session on Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport on Monday afternoon exploring the renovations of the Royal BC Museum, putting his focus on how the NDP government has outlined as a goal efforts to decolonize that institution.

Mr. Ross serves as the Liberal critic on LNG and Energy.

The Skeena MLA is also a member of the Following committees:

For our readers from the Bulkley Valley area, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen  was mentioned once   in the record for the week in the  Legislature from March 7-10. 

That entry in the Legislature register coming by way of an introduction on Wednesday of a guest in the viewing area of the legislature. Mr. Cullen introduced Cowichan-Malahat-Langford MP Alistair MaGregor. Mr. Cullen had served with the MP during his time as an MP in the House of Commons.

The Stikine MLA is not currently assigned to any Parliamentary committees

Mr. Cullen serves as the Government's Minister of Municipal Affairs
