They celebrated the past and raised funds for the future last weekend as the North Coast Transition Society hosted their Gatsby Gala, offering an opportunity for Prince Rupert residents to put on some of their finest Prohibition era threads and gather together for the first time in a long time.

The night was a Fundraising effort for the Society but also one which paid tribute to those who launched what has become a vital community service some 42 years ago.

Among those honoured on the night and in the photo above: were Kathy Booth, Susan Crowley, Ellen Witherly, Rhoda Witherly, and Dena Sharon Gwilsluuyalkganaaw

The Saturday event at the Highliner Hotel's Lax Kw'alaams Ballroom brought out a huge crowd who enjoyed an evening of good food, socializing, music and dancing.

Both Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain and Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach were in attendance for Saturday's event, sharing some thoughts on the evening and the work of the NCTS through social media on the night.

There's no final total made available as of yet towards how much was raised from the event, but judging by the size of the crowd for the night, the receipts should be solid and help with program delivery in the community in the months ahead.

The North Coast Transition Society has provided a Gallery of photos of the night courtesy of Tree House Pohtography, you can take your trip back to the time of the Speakeasies here.

More notes on the work of the North Coast Transition Society can be reviewed from their Facebook page.
