From the Ice to the Hardwood ... How the Prince Rupert Rampage are helping out the PRMBA

The Prince Rupert Rampage have launched a
community movement to help make sure that
minor sports are accessible to all youth in the community

Last month we shared some news of a fundraising plan generated by the Prince Rupert Rampage, which will see the Senior Men's Hockey Club lend a hand to the city's Minor Basketball program.

The much welcome help coming as the PRMBA prepares for the 2022-23 season with a number of their families facing financial challenges towards that participation.

And that's were the Rampage come into the story, with the team expanding on their fund-raising plan for this coming hockey season through their Social Media feed yesterday.

In their post, the Rampage provide a pretty strong example of the community spirit that have have shown year in and year out ... and they explain why they chose the Basketball league for their latest work in community spirit building.

WHY? …. After speaking with Kerry Crump president of PR Minor Basketball Association, she explained their youth registrations had been dwindling for the past couple years, they do not qualify for KidSport and they have no money to financially help kids join and play.

With the cost of living skyrocketing, fuel prices at a record high, and player enrolment down,… we knew we had to help. We told Kerry to waive the registration fees for minor basketball and Rupert Rampage would cover them through fundraising efforts at our home games.

We don’t want to hear any more stories of kids sitting on the sidelines watching because they can’t afford to play. Prince Rupert is the best place to live and raise a family. Your family's financial status should not ever determine if your kids can play sports.

The Social Media message which is available in full here, also provides a checklist towards how to help for Rampage fans and others in the community.

The team has a few other ideas percolating and promise more to come in the weeks ahead as they prepare for the 2022-23 CIHL season.

You can follow the Rampage through their Social Media feed here.
