This summer is making for a busy work schedule for CityWest as the City of Prince Rupert owned communication company moves forward with its Fibre to the Home program, a ten million dollar investment in the community that has already connected over 150 residents to the latest in communication services through the internet.
One year ago City West CEO Chris Marett highlighted the lessons learned from previous installations in other communities and how CityWest's experience from those projects will continue to meet the needs of the community
“CityWest started in Prince Rupert, and with this investment, we’re showing that we’re committed to being a part of Prince Rupert’s future, ... “Those builds have been successful because of our amazing employees,” ... “They’ve got the experience to undertake the build in Prince Rupert, and they know the most important thing for us is to exceed our customers’ expectations. They’ll be able to carry over the lessons learned in our prior builds to improve the experience for Rupertites.”

Residents from the Seal Cove area to just past Overlook, were the first to gain access to Fibre to the Home, with over 150 Rupertites now connected to their Gigacentres and accessing the new service.
The map above highlights the CityWest plan over the next year, as three other sectors of the city become connected with the service. It's been estimated that the entire city will be on the Fibre to Home system within three to five years.
As part of last year's roll out, Vice President, Bart Kuntz who has responsibility for the Outside Plant, and is supervising the Prince Rupert build, outlined how CityWest is approaching its roll out of the service across the city.
“When you’re doing a fibre over-build, you start from the outside of town, and work towards the centre,” “Within a few years, we’ll have finished the build, which will improve our customers’ experience with us.”
The City West VP offered up a few observations for the progress report of today.
"That CityWest is undertaking such a tremendous project in our own backyard really shows how far the company has come, I’m proud to see the work that the company has undertaken to improve the experience for customers in Prince Rupert.”
“I’m very proud to be part of a company that has worked so hard to ensure this project is meeting our deadlines,” ... “From the outside crew to the back office, there’s a lot of work to be done, and we’re getting it done at a phenomenal rate.”
The Fibre to the Home project will give CityWest the ability to continue to offer fast internet speeds, HD programming and phone services, with the flexibility to offer more services and faster speeds in the future.
