Tonight's the Night! The Class of 2018 at Charles Hays Secondary hold their Graduation Ceremony at the Lester Centre of the Arts |
Cameras will click, iPhone's will record and parents and guardians might sniffle just a little bit. all while a parade of young adults heads out into the future tonight, as Charles Hays Secondary holds the 2018 Graduation ceremony at the Lester Centre tonight at 7PM.
The grads have been in rehearsal over the course of this week, making sure to have their place staked out on the Lester Centre stage, prepped for one of the milestone nights of their lives.
110 students are listed as part of this years graduating class, their walk towards their post secondary future to take roughly 60 seconds or so from the foyer of the Lester Centre to their place on the stage of the city's Arts Centre.
As the evening moves forward they will hear words of advice from their chosen commencement speaker, greetings from politicians, school officials and a number of other guests, as well as some reminiscences of their years at Charles Hays from their valedictorians.
Then, they will hear their name called out take their place at centre stage and receive their diploma, some will also be hailed for their scholastic achievements and the award of bursaries and scholarships that come from their academic efforts with the School District.
Such is the enthusiasm in the community for graduation time, that the SD52 program of scholarships and awards finds no shortage of local organizations, businesses, unions and residents to help the students to plan for their post-secondary future, we reviewed some of that partnership earlier this month with a look at the growing list of participants in the program.
Many of those that graduate tonight will be heading off to new adventures in places spread out across Canada and maybe even beyond, others will stay close to home to attend studies at college in Prince Rupert or Terrace, or make their entry into the ranks of the employed.
Tonight marks one of the truly special moments for families, the ceremony at the Lester Centre marking the end of one passage of time and the arrival of new journey ahead. The first of a two night period of celebration followed by Saturday nights Grad Night as the class of 2018 prepare to bid their farewell to their high school years.
Those that aren't attending the Commencement in person at the Lester Centre, can view it through CityWest Cable which will broadcast and streaming coverage tonight starting at 7PM.
The Ceremony will be available in High Definition on Channel 310, in SD on Channel 10. It will also be streamed through the CityWest Live stream feed.
As the week of preparation has rolled by, the Charles Hays Secondary twitter feed has been a popular spot to keep up with what the Grads have been up to.
