Graduation Day for NWCC's Prince Rupert Campus

The Multi Purpose room at the Prince Rupert Campus will be the
gathering space for family and friends following today's
Prince Rupert convocation ceremony

The Library and multi-purpose room will serve as Convocation Hall today, as this years class of 2018 at Northwest Community College receive their diplomas in a 1 PM ceremony at the Prince Rupert campus.

Family and friends will gather at the college to share the special day with the graduating class, with a range of officials from the college and participants from the community on hand to salute their completion of studies and the next step in the career journeys.

Among the political leaders who will be saying a few words at today's ceremony is North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice, herself a former student of the Prince Rupert campus prior to her jump into the political scene both municipally and provincially.

However, as his travels have taken him out of the city this week, Prince Rupert Mayor Lee Brain will not be in attendance at this years event to deliver the congratulations of the City to the grads as they celebrate the end of their studies.

Today's convocation takes place in the Library, with a reception for the grads and their guests to take place in the Multi purpose room following the afternoon ceremony.

As part of this years convocation, the college will also salute the work of those to be honoured for a  number of Awards as part of today's Prince Rupert celebration.

The Prince Rupert convocation is one of three that NWCC his hosting across the region this week, Smithers hosted their celebration on Tuesday, with Terrace's REM Lee theatre the venue for that campus celebration on Thursday.

In addition to being a personal milestone for the students, today's convocation at the Prince Rupert campus is also a historic one for the college, marking the final time in Prince Rupert that graduates will be celebrated under the name of Northwest Community college.

The Terrace convocation of tomorrow will be the final one for the college under the name of Northwest Community College, as we outlined on the blog in April, the college will soon mark the introduction of its new name of Coast Mountain College.

The college will make the transition from NWCC to Coast Mountain College on June 18th.
