Terrace-Kitimat airport makes plans for runway rehabilitation project this summer
The busiest airport in the Northwest is going to get some new blacktop this summer, with a major runway rehabilitation project scheduled for the Terrace airport, with the airport authority launching the bid process in mid May.
The Northwest Regional Airport Authority posted their bid request on the BC Bid website on May 24th and as the airport will remain open during the runway rehabilitation project, there are a number of guidelines that the successful bidder will have to adhere to when it comes to access control, vehicle operations and runway operations.
The work will require that the runway be closed nightly for an eight week period from midnight to 9:30 AM during the course of the construction work. The minimum duration of nightly runway and taxiway closures is estimated from Midnight to 5:20 AM
Regular flight operations for the airport are listed as starting shortly before 6AM
The closing date for the bids is June 15th.
It's anticipated that the work will get underway on July 3rd with substantial performance of the work to be completed by August 31st.
The full bid package and details of the work ahead can be reviewed from the BC Bid website.
The Runway rehabilitation work is just the latest part of a major renovation project for the airport, which has seen significant upgrades take place to the terminal facility as well over the last few years.
The work is part of an aggressive expansion plan for the airport which has created enough space now to handle four airlines, it currently is served by a schedule of two national and two regional carriers.
