Frank Slubowksi recognized for weekend NCAA efforts

"You score five goals, that’s nice to see but the fact that (goalie) Frank (Slubowski) had to make as many saves as he had to tonight is disappointing," -- WMU head coach Andy Murray speaking post game Friday night, about the former Prince Rupert Minor hockey grad's performance in NCAA action.

Andy Murray, the head coach of the Western Michigan University Bronco's is clearly a fan of Prince Rupert's Frank Slubowski, heralding his work over the weekend as Western Michigan University faced off against the Colorado College Tigers.

The recognition of Slubowski's efforts, came as part of Murray's review of his teams performance of Friday, where he outlined that many of those outside of the goal crease, were not providing for the best of help to their goaltender over the course of a sixty minute game.

Slubowski was key to the Bronco's success over the weekend, as he and his team recorded their first victories in their new NCAA conference, four points gained with a pair of wins.

The Friday night game was a thrilling  3-2 Overtime victory , a hard fought game that required a three goal comeback to secure the win. In the Friday night match up Slubowski faced thirty one shots, making 29 saves, many of them in the late stages of the third holding off the Colorado charge to secure the Broncos victory.

Saturday night, the Broncos clearly heeded the review from their head coach, with a dominating 5-1 victory over Colorado, completing the weekend sweep in impressive style. Slubowski faced thirty shots on Saturday night, turning aside all but one in the Broncos' victory.

And while the coach and the media found much to like from about the Prince Rupert goalkeeper's performance, it was not the first praise he received in the last few days. Earlier in the week, he had  received weekly honours based on his work at the recent Alaska Goal rush tournament in Fairbanks.

The Broncos next see action in non-conference games over the weekend, when they will host Northern Michigan University.
