Rampage grab must win in OT thriller in Kitimat

Saturday night provided the Prince Rupert Rampage with some points that will be theirs to keep, after a 6-5 overtime thriller at Kitimat's Tamititk arena.

The Rampage who learned earlier this week that the Ice Demons had won an appeal to BC Hockey and regained their forfeited two points of November 2nd, were faced with a must win game, as they headed down Highways 16 and 37 on Saturday.

With their placement in the standings of the CIHL West finding a bit of distance between themselves and the rest of the pack. Saturday's win, provided for an important bump in those listings and keeps the Rampage still in the mix at the midway point of the season and with the playoffs just over the horizon.

The impressive road from the Tamitik ice, comes after last weeks long slog to the Central Interior which saw the Prince Rupert squad drop games in Williams Lake and Quesnel.

Saturday the Rampage picked up their offensive game, with three goals from Kory Movold, claiming a hat trick on the evening. With other Rampage scoring coming from Brock Ward and Jordan Weir who had markers in regulation time.

With a 5-5 tie heading into the extra period, the Rampage held off the Ice Demons attack, providing for a counter offensive which saw Devin Palmer fire off the winning goal during the OT. A result that left the Kitimat crowd disappointed with the finish, but more than likely entertained by the fast paced night of hockey.

With the victory, the Rampage now holds a 2 and 7 record on the season. Still looking up at the rest of the West, but now within striking distance of the Terrace River Kings, with the Smithers Steelheads perhaps providing a bit more of a challenge to chase down.

The CIHL has been rather slow at delivering their box score summaries and updated standings of late, when they update their site, we'll share the paperwork review below.

The Rampage return home to the friendly confines of the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre for the remainder of the month, they host the Smithers Steelheads on Saturday night with a puck drop of 8 PM.

The following weekend the Houston Luckies are in town for a Saturday night matchup with the Rampage.
