Highway 16 CLOSED west of Smithers due to vehicle incident (Re-opened at 3 PM)

Update:

3:06 PM-- Drive BC advises that the highway has been re-opened to single lane alternating traffic, however it will close again from 7-10 PM to allow for a transfer of fuel from a truck involved in the incident.





Travel along Highway 16 has come to a standstill west of Smithers as RCMP and Highway officials work the scene of a vehicle incident from this morning, requiring closure of the highway in both directions.

No Detour is available around the scene, assessments into the incident continue and no update on a reopening time for the highway has been provided yet.



The incident took place between Smithers and New Hazelton, Weather conditions for the most part at the time of the reports of the incident were clear in that area of Highway 16.
