Update 10 AM: Haida Gwaii added to the Winter Storm Warning

The first weekend of the brand new year will bring a wintry mix through the next 48 hours, with conditions making for rain, freezing rains and snow before all has passed through for Monday morning.

With a moist Pacific front set to arrive in full force on the North Coast and  mixture of Arctic air to return to the region over the weekend, Environment Canada issued a Winter Storm Watch for the North Coast coastal regions on Friday morning.

The bulk of the weather conditions will make their presence felt on Saturday, when strong winds propel the system, with rain starting the process the snow to follow in full force by Sunday.

One of the more colourful of weather forecasts issued by Environment Canada in some time outlines the weekend of weather ahead.

You can access updated Weather Watch/Warning information through the weekend from the Environment Canada  (Prince Rupert) (Terrace)  (Smithers)

For those taking to the roads on Saturday and Sunday, Drive BC will provide the updates on road conditions across the region through their website and Twitter feed.
