Rupert Lawn and Garden centre the latest Prince Rupert business hit by thieves

Seal Cove's Rupert Lawn and Garden Centre was hit by thieves on Tuesday evening

Prince Rupert RCMP are investigating another break and enter in the community, with the Seal Cove location of Rupert Lawn and Garden Centre the latest to make it to the RCMP incident list.

The break in took place on Tuesday evening shortly before 10:30 PM, when a thief or thieves broke in through a sliding glass door and removed close to 200 dollars from the garden centre's cash register as well as to deliver some damage to the facility.

Police were quick in response to the alarm, but the suspects eluded attending officers and remain at large.

business to be the target of thieves

The garden centre does have a security system in place which may assist the RCMP in their investigation. To this point no details or images related to the suspects have been released by the police.

Rupert Lawn And Garden posted a pair of information notes to their Facebook page to advise the public of the incident and the closure of the location, which will reopen on Thursday at 9AM.

The theme of break and enters was one of the topic recently raised by Prince Rupert detachment commander Blake Ward, who during a presentation to the August 21st council session, outlined how commercial break ins around the city remained a priority file for local Mounties.

To address some of those incidents, the RCMP has sought to become more visible in the community through additional patrols, both in vehicle and on foot.

Should you have any information to assist in the investigation you can contact the Prince Rupert detachment at 250-627-0700  or through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
