Ahoy ye Matey's, there be progress at the Playground

The quick pace for turnaround at Mariner's Park as city work crews
continue to develop the new playground site at the downtown park

City work crews have been making some good progress on the rejuvenation project for the Mariner's Park Playground, with much of the preliminary work complete and but a few finishing touches seemingly ahead before the playground will be ready for use.

As might be anticipated for a park named Mariner's, the new look takes on a nautical theme, with a pirate's ship making for the base of the new equipment that will soon delight youngsters at the city's downtown park.

The project has been sponsored by the Port of Prince Rupert,  Shell Canada (Prince Rupert LNG), Macro Properties and the Prince Rupert Lions Club.

The local service club has been taking the lead in the playground renewal, a project that will feature a rubber surface to increase accessibility.

The City is still hopeful of meeting the previously announced deadline of an early October opening.

Until that time, the work site will remain fenced off as workers continue to put in their finishing touches.

You can review more background on the project from our original item of September 5th.
