Blog Watching: Week ending October 1, 2017

Municipal politics and relations with the Provincial government made for a good portion of the the week's news flow, with municipal leaders from across British Columbia gathering in Vancouver for the annual UBCM convention.

Northwest politicians headed south with hopes of making some progress on their initiative to gain more financial revenues from the resources that are taken from the region, with the Northwest Resource Benefits Alliance seeking out a number of ministers and the Premier to explore their themes of concern.

Mayor Lee Brain's work on climate topics also generated some interest this week, as the Mayor took part in the Climate Leadership sessions at UBCM. The Climate forums made for just one of a number of topics that made for discussion points on the week.

Back home, there was significant interest in what the City of Prince Rupert had to offer from this years Tax Sale list, with but a few properties still remaining on the active file by the time the Monday  morning auction came up.

And the launch of the BC Liberal leadership campaign found some of the candidates for Christy Clark's old job making the trip into the Northwest, with Mike Lee, Lucy Sager and Mike de Jong all meeting with residents through the week.

The top story of the last seven days however puts the focus on the hopes for a better share of resource revenue in the Northwest and the work of the Resource Benefits Alliance.

NDP Government appears to cool towards Northwest Resource Benefits calls for increased revenues -- The week started out with some mixed messages from the province on the Northwest BC initiative to gain revenue streams from resource development in the region. However, by week's end regional politicians were hailing the prospect of some progress when it comes to their efforts with Premer John Horgan   (posted September 25, 2017)

City of Prince Rupert Tax Sale set for Monday morning  -- The city's annual sale of tax properties came up quickly and with little in the way of notice, still the update proved to be a popular item on the week.  (posted September 24, 2017)

Mayor's Climate Leadership Council explore issues at UBCM -- With a range of sessions to attend over the course of the week of UBCM, Mayor Lee Brain's attendance as part of the Climate Leadership Council attracted a large volume of readers   (posted September 28, 2017)

Skeena Liberals to get first view leadership candidates with visit by Mike de Jong --  The Northwest got the first look at the campaigns for a few of the would be leaders of the BC Liberal party, with trips into the region from Mike Lee, Lucy Sager and former Finance Minister Mike de Jong (posted September 26, 2017)

Range of themes on Agenda as municipal leaders gather in Vancouver --  Municipal leaders spent the week in Vancouver taking in workshops, resolution sessions, trade show exhibits and demonstrations of new ideas and concepts as part of the annual UBCM gathering  (posted September 25, 2017)
