Yet another sign of the start of the holiday season will be on display tonight, as Alison O'Toole's finely tuned drama troupe from CHSS take to the stage for the secondary school's annual musical theatre presentation, this year taking on the comedic and musical themes of 9 to 5.
With Kristy Tillman herding the musicians made up of CHSS students and community musicians into shape over the last few months, the show puts the cap on over fourteen weeks of read through and preparations for the talented cast who have dedicated a large portion of their days and nights to the production since the call for auditions came out shortly after the return to school of September.
The production holds close to the themes of the original book, as well as to the scripts of the Broadway play and highly acclaimed motion picture that called attention to the atmosphere of workplace harassment and delivered some powerful social messages with comedic twists and songs that remain part of the play lists of radio stations to this day.
As anyone who has seen the play, or the movie before, the production features mature content and language and thus it is rated PG for this weeks run.
Under the watchful eye of CHSS's Drama Department head Alison O'Toole, the holiday season productions year after year provide the North Cost with a collection of student actors who take to their parts with energy and enthusiasm, making for many a memorable night of the past.
Pulling the event together features a strong core of volunteers from the high school. With some class participation in a number of areas, along with family and friends, the set construction and costume designs have come to life, with all of the work to be put on display for the first of three nights when the curtain rises shortly after 7:30 PM this evening at the Lester Centre of the Arts.
The three night run goes carries through to the finale on Saturday night, advance tickets can be picked up at the Lester Centre, or at Cooks Jewellers on Third Avenue West downtown.
The Price for Adults is fifteen dollars, Seniors and Students (14 years and above) get in for 10, though be advised that if you are a make a dash for the box office person just before showtime there is a two dollar charge for night of purchases.
