City Council Preview: Monday, November 8, 2021

A Public Hearing, Public Presentation from Northern Health and a short agenda of business makes for the schedule of events for the first of the two Council sessions of November.

The City continues to meet by remote measures, with the explanation towards the process outlined on the City of Prince Rupert website.

In accordance with current Provincial Orders, scheduled Regular Council Meetings have moved to a remote format for public access – available on Citywest Cable Channel 10/310, and live streaming at www.princerupert.ca/live.

Videos of the City’s Council meetings are also posted to YouTube in the days following the meeting. In the interests of public health and safety, at this time no one will be permitted into City Hall to view in the gallery, in order to ensure we can maintain physical distancing requirements.

Staff and Council attendance is also limited, with most calling in via conference. Thank you for your understanding.

Tonight's work load begins at 6 PM when City Council hosts a Public Hearing towards consideration of the  consolidation of lots at the corner of Sloan Avenue and McKay Street and a request for rezoning of the property.

When it comes to the Regular Council session, the evening opens with the much requested, somewhat long delayed presentation from officials at Norther Health who are anticipated to speak towards some of the health issues that City Council has received, as well as possibly to set the groundwork for the City's often noted plans to create a Health Advisory Committee.

As four Council Business a Variance Permit request for a property on First Avenue is the first order of business, followed by a report from the Chief Financial Officer to relay this years proposed distribution of Community Enhancement Grants.

The Council members will be asked to provide a letter of support towards the golf club's plans to renovate the Golf Course, with The Club seeking funding through Norther Development Initiative Trust.

Council will return to their work from the Public Hearing of earlier in the evening, with the decision on the progress for the proposed consolidation of lots.

The evening wraps up with any comments, questions or observations from the Council membership.
