Prince Rupert's Hannah Scherr, UVic Viking teammates look to claim National Rugby Championship this week in Kingston

After a regular season where they found some strong success, the Women's Rugby team at the University of Victoria is off to the National championship.

One of eight teams in Kington, Ontario this week taking part in the U Sports finale to the Rugby season.

Among those on the Varsity roster with the Vikes is Prince Rupert's Hannah Scherr, a former CHSS Rainmaker and a young lady well versed in the Sport of rugby through her Dad Jason a long time member of the Prince Rupert Seamen and part of the Seamen/CHSS program that has built the sport up at the grass roots level in the community.

Such has been her success in the sport that she has earned a place in the BC Rugby Elite Girls in the past and now plays the game at the top level in University Sports in Canada.

The Vikes season started in September, with the team gaining a 4-3 record on the season, splitting their appearance at the end of October in the Canada West playoffs, but moving on to the finals which get underway tomorrow when they take the Geulph Gryphons.

You can review their work to date from the UVic newsfeed here.

The task ahead though will be a challenging one for the Vikes, Guelph is seeking their third Championship the two teams last met in 2018 when the Gryphons had the better outcome.
