Second Marine incident of the year in Gardner Canal gains notice of Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP

Another incident on the Gardner Canal between Kitimat and
Kemano has renewed calls for marine safety measures in area waters

A marine incident last week not far from where the MV Ingenkia sank in February of this year,  has caught the attention of Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach, who has expressed his concern over safety in the tug boat industry, with the MP once again calling for decisive action by the Federal Government.


The latest incident once again involved a tug operated by Wainwright marine in Prince Rupert, the MV Cadal, the situation coming from the running aground of the tugboat in the Gardner Canal. 

The incident one which is being assessed by WorkSafeBC and the Transportation Board to determine if any further action is required.

The incident of one week ago, has reminded many of the tragic circumstances this February and the MV Ingenika sinking which claimed the lives of Prince Rupert's Troy Pearson and crew mate Charley Cragg, a third member of that crew Zac Dolan was rescued and continues to recover.

That incident is still under investigation by the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, there is no timeline indicated as to when it's anticipated that the review will be completed, or when if any information related to it will be released to the public.

The Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP will have the opportunity to reinforce his safety concerns when Parliament resumes on November 22nd.
