One final Provincials for Mel Bishop, as Rainmakers prepare for Wednesday tip off against North Vancouver's Windsor

Chris Kennedy and Howard Tsumura explored all four
of the Provincial Senior Boys High School Basketball
Tournaments set for this week from Langley

The Charles Hays Senior Boys learned their fate for the first round of Provincials on Sunday, with a province wide streamcast  previewing the matchups for Day One of the Four Day Festival of Basketball to come from Langley this week.

The Finale to High School Basketball and return to the Big stage of the Langley Events Centre returns after a one year COVID hiatus and for the Rainmakers the event opens up with a Day One Showdown with Windsor from North Vancouver

When they hit the court at the Langley at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, the Charles Hays Seniors enter as the Number Seven Seed, the final rankings revealed in a fifteen minute segment of the hour long preview show on Sunday.

Hosts Howard Tsumara and Chris took viewers through the match ups, offering glimpses of what could come as Tournament week play moves forward.

Of note from their review how this season has been very different for the participating teams, particularly those outside of the larger population areas where opportunities for travel and expanded competition was limited owing to COVID.

A situation not shared by the larger schools in the more populated areas of the province where the one on one games were much easier to set up to keep the skills at a high level.

One final chance to cut some twine could come
for Mel Bishop this Saturday, the long time
coach of the Charles Hays Rainmakers is
coaching in his last Provincials this week

When Kennedy and Tsumara reached the Charles Hays - Windsor matchup they dropped some Breaking News for the tournament and oforbasketball in British Columbia.

That came with an announcement from Howard Tsumara that this would be the final tournament for legendary Rainmaker coach Mel Bishop, who puts a wrap on 43 years of coaching the Senior Boys with this weeks tournament.

A significant milestone for High School sports in the province and a mark that will no doubt be celebrated by tournament participants in Langley as the week moves along.

The Rainmakers head off for the Big Show tonight with a focus on a place at centre court come Saturday when the Championship finals put the wrap on the 2021-22 season.

The path to that spot will come with some familiar names to face ahead starting with Windsor on Wednesday.

A win on Wednesday will chart a potential road through a few teams that the Rainmakers have crossed paths in the pats through their trips to Vancouver and from previous Provincials, among them Lambrick Park and Brentwood Academy in their bracket and King George in the other.

The Rainmakers head into the tournament as the defending champions following their 2020 victory of King George, the current roster looking to pick up where those previous took their leave from high school basketball.

One other team from Northern BC is making the trip south for the AA tournament that is Nechako Valley from Vanderhoof.

Rainmaker fans can follow the action through the TFSE stream casts, with both a daily pass and tournament pass available for hoops fans to check out.

You can review those viewing options and access more information for the tournament from the AA Tourney website page.

As well, Howard Tsumara's Varsity Letters website will feature a number of entries as this week moves forward, the publication one of the best resources on high school and University sports.
