Prince Rupert Pentecostal's make plans for new Community Church in Downtown area of the city

A sample of the window signage proposed for the new location of the
Kaien Community Church at 255-257 Third Avenue West

Worshippers of the former Pentecostal Tabernacle on Portage Avenue are somewhat like Nomads at the moment, with the sale of their former property on Portage earlier this year, they have temporarily set up their House of Worship on Fourth Avenue West at St. Andrew's Anglican Cathedral.

Though that location, is just a layover for the journey downtown and new life in a building in the Downtown Core.

The message making of Facebook charting their travels to this point.

Monday's Prince Rupert City Council Session, provided for the next step in that shift to the downtown core as the City's councillors received a report related to a variance request from the Kaien Community Church.

The request is for an allowance 80% of the available space for frosted window coverage for the storefront windows at 255-257  Third Avenue West.

The request gained quick approval from the Council members on the evening, who following the presentation from the city's planning department moved the process forward towards public notification.

There is no timeline noted as of yet as to when worshippers will be moving into their new downtown location.

Follow their Facebook feed for updates on the move and other notes of interest.

You can review the presentation on the evening from the City's Video Archive starting at the 21 minute mark.

The land which was sold to new owners, made for a bit of controversy earlier this year as part of the Public Hearing into the rezoning for the land and structures in place on Portage Avenue.

More notes from the Monday session can be explored through our Council Timeline feature.

Further items of interest from City Council can be reviewed through our Council Archive page.
