Council moves forward on path towards recognition of rebranding project at UBCM Awards time

The City of Prince Rupert's representatives to UBCM this September in Whistler will be crossing their fingers and hoping for the best, with City Council moving forward with a recommendation from staff to put the recent Civic rebranding project up for consideration of a UBCM honour.

As we outlined on Monday, the city's communication director Veronika Stewart provided a report for Council that highlighted the collaboration among the partners in the project, with a particular note towards the contribution from artist Russel Mather and the Communication firm Will Creative.

The Report which you can review below provided some background the work on the new logo and branding and the celebratory nature of the collective group that brought it together.

At Monday's Council session, the City's Corporate Administrator provided the narrative for the request for approval to submit the branding program for consideration of the Community Excellence Award.

Ms. Miller also made note of the strong input from all involved as part of her presentation.

"In recognition of the efforts and quality of output of Russell Mather and Will Creative, City Staff and the focus group the City is seeking council support for an application to the UBCM Community Excellence Awards for this project.

The intent of the application is to celebrate the city's unique approach to developing the community identity, as well as the work of Russel Mather, Will Creative and the feedback provided by the focus group of community members."

When it came time for Council comment, there was no discussion to be heard on the topic from the city's elected officials, with Council quickly approving the motion to put the rebranding program ahead for consideration of the UBCM Awards committee.

The UBCM convention takes place from September 12 to 16 at the Whistler Conference Centre, the awards will be handed our at the Thursday evening banquet.

You can review the full presentation from Ms. Miller as part of the City's Video Archive starting at the 20 minute mark.
