Highway fatality near Topley claims life of Prince Rupert bound passenger

Houston RCMP are investigating a traffic incident overnight near the Highway 16 community of Topley which has claimed the life of a woman and left a male in hospital with injuries.

In an update from the Smithers Traffic Services this morning the RCMP noted that responding officers arrived on the scene just west of Topley at 4AM, to find an Orange Dodge pick up having left the highway and crashed, with the female occupant deceased, the male occupant injured.

From their investigation thus far, they have determined that the west bound Orange Dodge pick up truck was travelling from the Lower Mainland to Prince Rupert.

As part of their investigation, the West Pacific Traffic Services is asking that any witnesses that may have seen the the truck in question along the highway from Vanderhoof to Topley between 2 and 4 AM to contact them at 250-845-2204.

Houston RCMP, West Pacific Region Traffic Services (Smithers) and  the RCMP Collision Reconstruction Service are working the investigation file.

The BC Coroners Service has also joined the investigation and no further information has been released to this point.
