The Terrace Roundabout is now open making for a change in the driving habits for travellers through the Skeena Valley city |
While the full project is not complete and some of it will have to wait until the Spring, the new roundabout at the intersection of Highways 16 and 37 in Terrace has been opened for use and with one week in the rear view mirror, motorists both local and from the neighbouring communities are learning how to adjust to the newest feature of traffic flow infrastructure in the region.
The 9.3 million project, which was originally scheduled to be completed by the fall, still has some additional work to complete, including a bypass lane towards Highway 37 South.
Some background on the project can be reviewed here.
The debut of the roundabout made for some attention from the Terrace media last week:

Roundabout tips from the Ministry of Transportation |
This past weekend would have made for the first opportunity for visitors from Prince Rupert to test out their driving skills on the new feature of Highway 16.
For those that may need a refresher course in how Roundabouts work, the Ministry of Highways offers up some notes to review.
The Terrace area roundabout was one of two large scale road infrastructure projects that had been proposed for the Northwest as part of the Province's work towards local highways.
While the Terrace Roundabout project is almost complete, the Mile 28 crossing project closer to Prince Rupert has been put on the shelf |
The second one, which was a an ambitious project to remove the last level rail crossing on Highway 16 at Mile 28 between Prince Rupert and Terrace, however that large scale infrastructure initiative was suspended earlier this year, with no indication as to when it may be taken off the shelf for development.
