The debris pattern from the trail of over 100 lost containers from the Zim Kingston container ship is providing for some watchful eyes on Haida Gwaii, with residents of the Island told to be on alert for any potential debris washing up on their shores.
The Advisory of the potential for debris was issued by the Gaw Tlagee Emergency Services Department and relayed through their Social Media page on Wednesday.
Residents are advised that any potential debris is still between 2 to 5 days away, if it does shift direction towards Haida Gwaii.
You can follow updates from the Emergency service department here.
So far much of the recovery efforts on the drifting containers has been concentrated on the west coast of Vancouver Island with a number of sites located where debris has come ashore.
Yesterday, we relayed some notes on preparation in Northern waters by the Prince Rupert Port Authority and its partners for marine situation such as that suffered by the Zim Kingston.
