| Crane's Crossing (the old Raffles) has been designated as the Weather Response Shelter for Prince Rupert |
With the winter months just about here, the Province of British Columbia has launched its Weather Response Shelter program for the year ahead, offering temporary shelter space every night.
In their information release of yesterday, the program is outlined as follows:
The extreme weather response shelters, which typically open each year from Nov. 1 until March 31, are available overnight when a community issues an extreme weather alert.
This year, the Province gave non-profit groups access to funding as early as Oct. 1 to allow shelters to open in communities already experiencing extreme weather.
Communities outline what weather conditions warrant an extreme weather alert and determine the number of extreme weather spaces to activate on any night, depending on the capacity of existing shelters and the estimated need.
In Prince Rupert, the Cranes Crossing location, (formerly Raffles) is the location with the province noting of 35 spaces available as part of their Weather response program.

As for the Crane's Crossing location, work while seemingly slow continues on towards its full development, the most recent notes heard on the project coming from a May variance approval by Prince Rupert City Council.
The project towards increased supportive housing is one that Council has become quite supportive of, as was seen from the comments towards their approval of the variance work of earlier this year.
