Gitxaala gains funding for Cultural Centre and Longhouse

The announcement this week towards the release of funding towards a number of project by the Northern Development Initiative Trust has delivered some welcome news to the Gitxaala Nation, with funding now in place towards their plans for a Cultural Centre and Longhouse.

In the update from March 1st, the NDIT outlined the scope of the 300,000 dollars that will be delivered to the community of Lach Klan (Kitkatla) towards the work ahead.

The Gixaala First Nation had outlined the timeline towards the work and their quest for additional funding in a notice for residents in a previous update for the community.

The NDIT funding for the Gitxaala Nation, was among eleven projects to benefit from the latest round of grants.

As we noted earlier this week,  included on the list was the City of Prince Rupert which also received 300,000 dollars towards its plans for the CN Heritage Building renovation on the waterfront.

The full list of the NDIT funding can be examined here.
