MLA's Week: February 28-March 3, 2022



The focus on the debate related to the NDP government's budget continued this week, with both North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice and Skeena MLA Ellis Ross speaking to the topic in the Legislature.

The topic of British Columbia's LNG resources also dominated the week, that in the wake of the Russian invasion and  attack on Ukraine, with the BC Liberals, speaking to the need to develop British Columbia resources, a theme that wast taken on by Mr. Ross through the week.

The new Minister of Municipal Affairs had a quick start to his new duties this week as well, with Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen outlining how his office will be taking on climate change challenges with municipal and local government.

On the week, Ms Rice was mentioned on three occasions  in the record for the week in the  Legislature from February 28- March 3.

In her response to the budget, the North Coast MLA outlined the additional spending and focus on emergency preparation and response in the province.


Ms. Rice also hailed the upcoming North Coast festival of the Sugar Shack hosted by AFFNO in Prince Rupert


Health care themes in the North made for the focus for her remarks on Monday 


The MLA  also explore other elements of the week from the Legislature through her social media stream.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross  was  mentioned six times in the record for the week in the Legislature from February 28-March 3.

His week in the Chamber for the most part was focused on LNG and how British Columbia could be a provider of energy in a changing global scene, themes delivered on Monday morning as part of the Budget Debate.


As the Liberal critic for LNG, the Skeena MLA followed up on themes of energy production a number of times through the week, on Monday afternoon,  on Tuesday morning and again on Wednesday.

Mr. Ross also spoke to the issues of salmon and how the Haisla Nation has worked to protect wild salmon, as well as to offer a welcome to a visitor to the Legislature this week.

Mr. Ross serves as the Liberal critic on LNG and Energy.



The Skeena MLA also addressed a range of themes  featured as part of the MLA's social media work.

For our readers from the Bulkley Valley area, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen  was not mentioned   in the record for the week in the  Legislature from February 28--March 3. 

While he had no comments to share in the Legislature, Mr. Cullen was part of a Monday press conference to outline some of the focus that his Ministry will take on themes of Climate Change.



Mr. Cullen serves as the Government's Minister of Municipal Affairs
