Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach raised the issued of airport delays on Tuesday in the House of Commons |
It's been one of the go to topics for Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach in recent weeks, and once again the MP has raised the issue of some of the chaos seen at some of the nation's largest airports, where wait times to get through Security are making for some very frustrated travellers.
Yesterday, Mr. Bachrach took the issue to the floor of the House of Commons again, calling on the Federal government to address the need for salary increases for those working at airports as the busy summer travel season begins to ramp up.
The troubles at some of the larger airports such as Toronto and Vancouver have become fairly common themes through social media, with many travellers in effect posting what appear to be hostage videos as they speak out agains the slow process of making their way through the airport security process.
One high profile video from former NHL player Ryan Whitney, who recounted his travel problems on Twitter referencing Pearson airport as a the 'worst airport on earth".
A frustrated shout out that spurred on the Mayor of Toronto to call on the Federal government to fix the problem quickly, noting how the airport is the Gateway to Canada.
While the Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP is focused on pay increases for the airport staffers across Canada, the issues at some of the airports seem larger than just payday compensation.
With some observers of the situation making note of the ongoing COVID protocols required as contributing to the lengthy amount of time required to make the way from security gate to airline gate.
Those COVID protocols have been the focus for the Opposition Conservatives in Ottawa as the situation continues to escalate and travellers vent their frustrations.
More items of note from aviation in the Northwest can be explored here.

I don't think that Mr Bachrach is causing much heat for the federal government by framing the airport delays as a premise for wage increases. Are airport security staff going slow and will they go faster if paid more? The real issue is when can the travel restrictions be safely removed. It would be interesting to know if he voted against the conservative motion to end the travel restrictions before they expire on June 30, assuming that he did cast a vote.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else find it ironic that MP Bachrach is advocating raises for airport staff but not advocating for inflation relief for everyday hard working Canadians?
ReplyDeleteHe voted against two opposition motions (#40 & #127) which would have provided some form of relief.
