Yesterday was Day One for this year's version of the Trading Coast Market concept, as the Hecate Strait Employment Development Society opened up some temporary retail space in their building adjacent to Mariner's Park.

As we outlined on the blog earlier this month, the program which is a co venture between Hecate Strait and Ecotrust Canada's North Coast Innovation Lab provides an opportunity for local artisans and crafts persons to explore employment opportunities and create social enterprises.

Learn more about the pilot project here, as the program coordinators Jordan MacDonald and Alicia Gracia outline what they hope is accomplished by the time the program runs its course at the end of the month.

You can also take a virtual tour of the marketplace through this video feature posted to the Hecate Strait Facebook page.

The next market opportunity comes up on August 7th, followed by two more openings on August 10th and August 17th.

Two of those (7th and 17th) are timed to coincide with Cruise ship visits at the nearby Northland Cruise Terminal, offering an opportunity for the vendors to showcase their items to a large group of visitors to the community.

The market hours run from 10 AM to 5 PM
