City's Active Living Guide offers snapshot of more than just Recreation options in the community

By now pretty well everyone with a mailbox has received a copy of the Prince Rupert Recreation Active Living Guide for Winter 2019/20, the thirty page magazine guide to recreation options at the city's various facilities and much more.

While the focus is on the Civic Centre and Earl Mah Aquatic Centre programs for the winter, in amidst the pages are snapshots of many other civic initiatives and those from local organizations.

The theme for the winter from David Geronazzo, the Director of Recreation and Community Service is that of how Recreation is all about building active lives, through fitness, social connections and learning new things, with a reminder as to how the Recreation complex is the hub for much of those activities that are offered.

Beyond the schedule of recreation activities, are reminders of such projects as the Recreation Access program, KidSport program, Recreation pass programs for a range of users and some of the spaces the Civic Centre has available for rent for groups or individuals.

Community organizations also get some time to shine in the winter mailing program, with the Prince Rupert Library, Gymnastics Association, Prince Rupert Seniors Centre, Special Events Society, Change Makers Education Society, AFFNO Sugar Shack and this weekend's Hometown Hockey event all featured.

The Guide also puts the spotlight on the newest space at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre that of the Raven Youth Lounge, a fun and safe place designed for youth from ages 13 to 18 that is set to open soon.

Updates on the lounge can be found on the Rupert Youth Facebook page

Some City of Prince Rupert initiatives are also featured, including the City's Emergency Alert System, Mobile App program, as well as two pages of notes on the city's delivery of water to homes in Prince Rupert and how to reduce the potential health effects from home sourced lead in drinking water.

The City also provides a helpful map and calendar for the 2020 Garbage pick up cycles, though perhaps that went to press without a double check, what with a reminder of the 24 hour Transfer Station at the Regional District Depot, an option toward recycling that is no longer one that works on a 24 hour basis.

Registration is now underway for many of the programs that are featured, if you did not receive a copy at your home, you can contact the Recreation Department at 250-624-6707 to see if they have any copies available.

You can also access the guide online from the City of Prince Rupert website.
