Rain for Prince Rupert but it's a Winter Storm Warning in effect for Terrace/Kitimat and Smithers regions

While it appears that the Hawaiian side of a pacific front is going to be the main weather maker for Prince Rupert, with rain and temperatures above the Zero mark, less than ninety minutes inland it's the impact of the weather from the Arctic front that is about to make the news.

Terrace, Kitimat and on into the Bulkley Valley are now officially under a Winter Storm Warning, with a forecast of up to 60 cm of snow, with the conditions easing off and transitioning to rain by later tonight.

You can keep up to date with the weather inland through the Environment Canada website.

As the weather arrives road conditions across the Northwest can change quickly, you can keep track of the latest conditions through the Drive BC website and twitter feed.

You can also check the Ministry of Transportation Highway Cameras along the way, the transit to Terrace is available for viewing up until the Kwinitsa camera, with the Ministry camera locations of Kasiks and Terrace all still out of order.

From the Kwinitsa reporting station, the most recent images as of 8:30 indicated that the highway appears snow covered and in reduced visibility.

The effects of the weather have already been felt at the Terrace Airport with all of the morning flights listed as cancelled on the Northwest Regional Airport website.

Flights out of Prince Rupert remain on schedule so far, however Smithers has had cancellations as well this morning.

As Environment Canada keeps watch on the approaching system, we'll offer up more notes as the weather service provides them should notification be required.
