It being a City Council week, a number of the stories that navigate civic issues found placement among the five most read list of the last seven days.
Our notes on the recent Public Hearing towards rezoning of land on 11th Avenue East for a proposed apartment complex generated the most reviews of the week, along with our look at the latest element of the city's garbage and recycling program roll out.
The pace of Closed and Open City Council sessions reached a fifty fifty split this week and that also proved to be an item of some interest to readers.
The work of emergency responders in the city found a large audience following our look at a downtown traffic incident this past week.
And more news from CityWest found an interested audience as we outlined what the community of Lax Kw'alaams relayed to its residents about improved service coming to that community.
However, the top item of interest for the week explored a range of themes related to the conclusion of the suspended Public Hearing on the rezoning issue of the east side.
With 11th Avenue East Public Hearing concluded, Council approves third reading of bylaw and moves proposed rezoning on towards Final Approval -- The end of what the Mayor called a two year process towards an affordable housing proposal arrived this week. With completion of the Public Hearing into the 11th Avenue land rezoning process, an engagement which had been suspended in August. The Monday night event revisiting many of the themes of concern from area residents that had been shared six weeks ago. Council reaches the 50/50 split tonight for Public and Closed Session -- With three months to go until the end of the year, Prince Rupert City Councillors reached a point in their work on Monday evening, where half of their sessions for discussions on specific civic issues have now gone behind closed doors for a range of reasons from the Community Charter. CityWest to outline Lax Kw'alaams plans in days to come -- While they aren't ready to share the details just yet. Judging the volume of reviews to our story this week, the prospect of expanded communication service for Lax Kw'alaams will be of significant interest when the City of Prince Rupert owned and operated communication company lays out the blueprints (posted October 7 , 2021)
