SD52 sees first COVID advisory of the new school year

While the topic of potential COVID reports from area schools have been frequent on social media in recent weeks, today brought the first official notice of a Public Exposure from the BC CDC.

With the Provincial Heathl Agency adding Ecole Roosevelt Park School to its list as the location for an exposure with the dates of note from October 21-22 and 25-28.

When the schools reopened in September following summer break parents were advised that any public notification would be through a provincial data base which has been tracking exposures since school returned.

An information portal which has not mentioned Prince Rupert area schools since it's launch in the fall.

The topic has surfaced on the Northern Health Facebook page that is dedicated to Prince Rupert themes, with Northern Health providing the following information on how the notification process works.

"Northern Health posts notifications after contact tracing is complete for a case in a school setting, where an exposure letter has been circulated to one or more contacts within the school.

Close contacts are informed directly by either the case, or NH contact tracing teams, as they are most at risk; exposure letters are sent and posted when there is a broader exposure or ongoing transmission.

Not every lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 identified in someone who belongs to a school community requires a broader notification letter."

So far there is no information of note from the SD52 website, though the website for Ecole Roosevelt Park School did provide a notification for parents.
