A sample of what may come this fall dominated much of the news for the last seven days, as an atmospheric river stationed itself over Prince Rupert at the start of the week bringing some significant rain to the North Coast for the last unofficial week of summer.
The heavy rains provided for a few challenges around the city, but none more than the impact it had on Operations at the Prince Rupert Airport which had to shut down for a day owing to a flooded access road on Digby island.
The nature of some recent port assessments that made for discussion at Prince Rupert City Council made for a story of much interest this week, as we gained some background on the reductions direct from the PRPA.
The City's signature waterfront development of the CN Station complex gained a Cross Canada review from a syndicated tourism writer, which offered us a chance to review the current progress for the site.
Health Care has been a topic of some concern for much of the year, and this past week, Prince Rupert residents had opportunity to hear first hand from Northern Health and BC EHS officials towards both challenges and hopeful notes for the future for the area.
The top item of the week however was the weather, with the first atmospheric river situation to launch the fall weather systems of much interest.
River Forecast Centre raises alerts towards ongoing weather system -- It has been a week of weather watching for the residents of the North Coast. Starting of one week ago with a percolating weather system that delivered some extensive rainfall as August made its exit. The start of September gave us one more peek at a hot summer day, and now we're back into an extensive period of rain. All of it a preview of what's to come this fall. (posted August 29, 2022)

Recent Port Assessment valuation reductions were granted following appeal by PRPA on vacant lands -- Following last week's Prince Rupert City Council session and some of its focus on Port Property valuations we asked the Prince Rupert Port Authority for comment on the lowered assessment. Airport operations resume following Tuesday flooding on Digby Island access road -- One are impacted quite a bit by the atmospheric river that was stalled over the city was the Prince Rupert airport on Digby Island, with the first indication of the flooded road situation coming on Tuesday, with the City and YPR officials offering up an update on Wednesday. City's CN Waterfront project gains approving review from Tourism journalist, though local residents may have a few questions on its progress -- The prospect of a Craft Beer from the Wheelhouse on a patio in the sun is looking good for a national tourism writer, who provided a very positive overview of the CN Waterfront plans, Though for residents, the pace of construction and updates from the City on the project both seem to be at rather relaxed pace. Taking on the rumours, updating the state of heath care in Prince Rupert and area the focus for two hour Two Hall Monday -- Residents of Prince Rupert and area gained some helpful background on a range of health care issues in the community on Monday night, as North Coast ML Jennifer Rice hosted a two hour look at the challenges today and prospects for the future.
