The Crystal Symphony in port at Northland Terminal today |
The weather has co-operated magnificently for Cruise Industry officials today, as the Crystal Symphony, the largest ship to call on Prince Rupert this season pulled into port earlier today, sending a large volume of its 922 potential visitors ashore by 10 AM.
As they disembarked they took advantage of a range of activities ahead from trips to nearby attractions by boat or bus, or flight seeing options out of the Seal Cove Seaplane base.
Others wandered the Cow Bay area which saw a steady stream of visitors through the day day, as did the downtown region and local stores such as Canada Safeway and Wal Mart.
The Trading Coast Market was open for business today, taking advantage of potential customers coming through the front door |
Also showcasing their goods today were the participants in the Trading Coast Market program, which opened its doors near Mariner's Park for the second of their four shopping days.
As we noted last week, the co-venture between Hecate Strait and Ecotrust Canada launched its marketplace on July 31st, the program offers the opportunity for local artisans and crafts persons to showcase their goods for both local residents and those visiting the community.
The Crystal Symphony will be here until 6PM when it wraps up its ten hour stopover in Prince Rupert. The vessel is the largest ship to call on Prince Rupert this year, and today marked its only appearance on the 2019 schedule.
The Windstar vessel, Star Legend was also scheduled to be part of the midweek Cruise Day Doubleheader, having been in port from 6 AM to 1 PM, bringing an additional 212 guests to town for the day.
Once the Crystal Symphony pulls in its lines and departs the harbour at 6PM, Prince Rupert's energetic troupe of Cruise Ambassadors will be able to enjoy a ten day break before the next Cruise ship Double header day.
On Saturday, August 17th the city will see two cruise ships make a port call, with the Oceania Regatta calling on Northland Terminal, while the Seabourn Sojourn will be at anchorage in the harbour.
Between the two vessels, some 1,134 visitors will arrive between 8 AM and 6 PM.
