Vaccination Card debuts across BC today, while protests on a range of COVID themes also planned

Today is implementation day for the BC Vaccine Card program, with non essential businesses and activities now required to determine the status of their customers or patrons prior to allowing them into their operations, enterprise or function.

The card available online has had somewhat of a rough launch period, with a number of British Columbians expressing frustration with the program as they sought to access their vaccination record for display, with the Province providing additional instructions as last week's program rolled out.

Learn more about the Vaccine Card program here.

While the vast majority of British Columbians have accessed their records, or are in the process of doing so, the program and other elements of the Provincial governments COVID response plan has met with anger and hostility at times by others.

A group that is making for a loud minority of those looking to change the government's course of action based on their belief that our freedoms and rights as citizens are at risk.

Today will see another round of protests around British Columbia, the most controversial location for those gatherings at health care facilities; a decision by protest organizers that has left many in the province angry with them and seen calls for a more determined response from the provincial government and police forces across BC to ensure access to those facilities is not impeded.

Those organizing the protests seem somewhat oblivious to the damage done to their cause by targeting the health care facilities and the personnel that work at them and how their quarrel with authority seems misguided at best, churlish and potentially dangerous at its worst.

That as they expressed their rage on any number of themes to those in the health care field who have faced the COVID battle the longest.

Considering that it's a political issue that those in protest have, it's puzzling for many as to why they are focused on hospitals and health care workers a venue that organizers should really reconsider, especially  when its the politicians that they should be directing their concerns towards.

Also to take place today is an update on COVID from Health Minister Adrian Dix and Public Health Officer Doctor Bonnie Henry, that as the provincial totals continue to show increases and word begins to get out of challenges being faced by many hospitals that now are becoming somewhat overtaken by the rising rates.

The two health officials may also provide an update on the pace of the British Columbian vaccination program which as of Friday had seen over 7.5 million vaccinations provided in the province to date, with 3.6 million of the provinces residents listed as fully vaccinated.

The province to province comparison can be reviewed here.

That information session for Mr. Dix and Doctor Henry is set for 3 PM this afternoon and will  be available for viewing through the BC Government Facebook feed, twitter feed and YouTube as well as some news options in the province.
