Blog Watching: Week ending November 6, 2021

Whether it's burger envy, or just a desire for a few more epicurean options in the Prince Rupert area, our notes on a plan in Smithers to bring the Burger King franchise to the Bulkley Valley community was by far the most read item of the week.

Health care in times of COVID also made for a well received item this week, as we relayed some notes from Health Minster Adrian Dix on how Northern Health and Prince Rupert Regional Hospital are addressing staffing challenges at the moment.

The ever increasing volume of trade coming through Prince Rupert has one more option in place to get to key destinations with impressive times, as CN Rail introduced a new direct service to Toronto.

The Prince Rupert and District Chamber of COmmerce is looking to ramp up their involvement in the community again, with the Chamber finding a new Executive Director, tapping David Geronazzo to take on the duties at the Chamber office.

And readers were quite interested in the latest notes on the search for Michael Kitchener, the young Prince Rupert resident who went missing towards the end of October.

However, the top item of the week put some focus on the ever competitive world of fast food franchising and how Prince Rupert seems to be falling off the pace of other communities.

Prince Rupert falls behind in the Northwest Burger Gap --  Prince Rupert and area residents must really, really want a Whopper; our look earlier this week at the prospects of the Burger King chain putting a new model of franchise into the Smithers area captured a large readership on the week.    (posted November 5, 2021)
