The first tangible sign for the construction of the new RCMP detachment in Prince Rupert will come with some demolition, with the City of Prince Rupert advising of the start of work on the site at the corner of McBride and Third Avenue East.
The City noting that fencing has gone up at the location with the demolition schedule set to start within two weeks. It's anticipated that the construction of the new facility will be completed in time for occupancy sometime in 2024.
The progress for the new RCMP detachment made up for a segment of Mayor Lee Brain's recent State of the City presentation hosted at the Lester Centre on June 28th.
City Council recently approved the Loan Authorization towards up to 25 million dollars towards the project, the Councillors sending the Loan Authorization consultation to the Alternative Approval process in mid May.
The AAP period ended in June with no members of the public registering any opposition to the loan.
