Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen to take pass on BC NDP leadership race

One of the most frequent  names to be mentioned in recent weeks when it comes to the upcoming NDP leadership race has decided to sit out the process.

With Nathan Cullen today announcing he will not be in the running to replace current NDP Premier John Horgan this fall.

Mr. Cullen's message to the BC NDP membership today advising he will
not be a candidate for the upcoming leadership race

Mr. Cullen notes of his focus on his family and his service for the people of Stikine for the short term in his notes for the party membership.

His announcement was shared both on twitter and Facebook earlier this afternoon.

He makes for the second high profile NDP cabinet minister to step away from the race, with Ravi Khalon having announced previous that he is not interested in the post at this time.

His decision to step down came with some advice for Housing Minister and Attorney General David Eby to consider a run for the office, which seems to have propelled Eby to the status of front runner.

The need for a leadership race and what will in effect be the election of British Columbia's next Premier came following a June 28th announcement from the current Premier John Horgan citing recent health challenges, noting that as a result that he will be stepping down from his post this fall.
