Liam McChesney, Canadian team mates gain valuable International experience, but were bounced out following GLBL Jam semis

This past week Brough another learning  opportunity for  former Charles Hays Rainmaker Liam McChesney, as the young Rupertite donned the Team Canada jersey for the last week as part of the GLBL Jam Tournament in Toronto.

As we outlined last week, McChesney was named to the final roster for the tournament in early July and upon tip off for the event saw play in two of the four Canadian games.

Like most of the roster, he was on the bench for Game One as the Team Canada coaching staff gave their starting roster the majority of the touches for the ball in the tournament debut, the former Charles Hays player gaining his first time on the court in game two.

A contest, like all of the GLBL Jam games which was broadcast to the North coast and across Canada on Sportsnet .

In his first contest for the event he saw just over four minutes of play as the Canadians took on the Americans in the early tournament action, McChesney noted for rebound work and some defensive play in his time on the court.

Game Three brought his largest volume of playing time, with McChesney in action for close to eleven minutes of the contest with Italy, more in the mix on the offensive play, the downside of extended time on the court also meant his plus-minus ranking took a bit of a hit during that period.

His play in game three featured 2 assists, 1 offensive rebound, 1 steal and 4 fouls of all varieties in total

Canada's final match up in the tournament came with a Saturday Semi Final with the USA, that one made for a shorter bench for the Canadian side and that saw the former Rainmaker on the bench for the contest, which found Canada on the wrong side on the scoreboard at games end.

The Americans claiming victory by a score of  93 to 87.

The tournament finale saw the Brazilian Team defeat the USA.

Up next for McChesney is a return to Illinois State and preparation work for the 2022-23 NCAA Season.

His Redbird team mates were following his travels to Toronto with interest through their social media feed, sharing notes through twitter as the event moved forward through the week.
