MLA's Week: October 3-6, 2022



British Columbia's MLA's returned to Victoria this week, a summer of travels through their constituencies at an end, with the work of the Fall Session ahead.

The BC Liberals and Green Opposition members coming back from the summer break with a range of issues from the folks back home to take to the NDP government;  with topics such as Crime, Housing and Health Care all making for some of the discussion of the first week for the session.

The listings for the Northwest contingent featured participation from all three, with the Minister of Municipal Affairs gaining the most close ups on the Legislature broadcasts as the week moved forward.

As for more on the recent week of work from the House, the four days unfolded as follows:

On the week, Ms Rice was mentioned twice  in the record for the week in the  Legislature from October 3-6

Monday she spoke early in the morning session in defence of the work of the NDP on health care in the province. 


Wednesday Ms. Rice joined the discussion on the province's work towards the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act. She addressed the topic at the 3:55 pm mark of the afternoon session.

The MLA was also part of the discussion on a topic of note from the home constituency, making her first public comments related to the Port Tax Cap issue that has been one of the dominant conversation themes for the City of Prince Rupert Council over the last month.


The North Coast MLA is also a member of the Following committees:




Ms. Rice serves as the Government's Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness

The North Coast MLA also addressed a range of themes through her Social Media Stream.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross  was mentioned twice in the record for the week in the Legislature from October 3-6

For his first topic of the fall session, Mr. Ross joined in on the BC Liberal focus on crime for the morning session, noting of the ongoing concerns over the Justice System is handling cases in the Terrace area. The MLA's statement comes at the 10:55 am portion of the session

In the Tuesday afternoon session, the Mr. Ross spoke to the elements of Bill 26, the Environmental Management Act, challenging a number of the NDP government's plans for the legislation.  His review comes at the 1:50PM mark of the afternoon session.

The Skeena MLA took advantage of the Wednesday afternoon introductions portion of the session to welcome back a familiar face to the Legislature, noting of Michelle Stilwell in the House at 1:45 PM.

Mr. Ross serves as the Liberal critic on LNG and Energy

For our readers from the Bulkley Valley area, Stikine MLA Nathan Cullen  was  mentioned four times   in the record for the week in the  Legislature from October 3-6

The Stikine MLA was the busiest of the Northwest members for the week, steering some legislation through the House and speaking to other government bills.

Mr. Cullen introduced the government's plans towards Property Tax Amendment legislation in the Monday afternoon session,.


The Minister of Municipal affairs speaking further to it as part of the Tuesday afternoon session at 6:15 PM.

The Wednesday session saw the participation of the Stikine MLA twice, first with comments related to changes for the Pavilion Corporation Act at 2 PM of the session, Mr. Cullen later joined the discussion over changes to the Mortgage Services Act at 6:30PM.


Mr. Cullen serves as the Government's Minister of Municipal Affairs

Back in the House just one week, the MLA's now get a one week reprieve from the challenges of the Legislature, with the Chamber taking a one-week Thanksgiving Break.

MLA's return to the Legislature on Monday, October 17.
