The members of the Port Edward Volunteer Fire/Rescue department had a mid day call out on Sunday, but quick work from the homeowner meant they were mostly tasked with follow up duties and investigation.

As the PEVFD relays through their social media feed, the call came in at 1:13 PM on Sunday to a garage area of a residence on Queen's Court, with the fire extinguished by the homeowner

Department members then conducted an overhaul process in the garage looking for any extensions of the fire and investigate the cause. 2 apparatus and 6 members attended the scene.

As a follow up for the community from the call, the PEVFD would like to take the opportunity to remind the public to check all smoke alarms in their homes regularly and take the extra step to install smoke alarms in their garages.
